Default Head Question

I have found an S4 for SUPER cheap, less than 3k. 6 Speed, 2000, black on black, 109k miles.
It says "The car had jumped timing, which caused the valves to hit the pistons. I don’t know the exent of the damage after that. The engine will not turn over as it sits."

Will a jumped belt require a head rebuild? Will heads from a regular Audi V6 fit? I come from the world of BMW and Toyotas so these new fangled Audi things are a new world to me.

Thanks!

There is another thread where someone was talking about a new motor running $3,000. If you can do the work yourself you could probably end up with a low mileage car for cheap.

yes if the belt jumped a tooth and hit the valve then yes you should have to rebuild the head and hope that the valve did nothing to the piston it might be better to but a motor might be the way to go since i guess you have to pull the motor to take the head off, but hey its up to you

Get a set of 20valve 2.8 V6 heads for cheap, the cams are more aggressive and port size is the same as the RS4. Also great power gains with bigger turbos.

My bet is the timing belt broke, or it did in fact jump, from a bad tensioner. Depending on what RPM this happened, you are looking at a minimum of rebuilt heads, & maybe a lower end rebuild. yes, you can use the heads from a 2.8l V6.

I bought my car with front end damage which also ripped the timing belt and caused some bent valves. After buying all necessary oem parts and if you figured labor into it you would be cheaper getting a $3500 used motor to swap in. Mine only made small impressions in pistons and no further damage but that could be different that car.
