Default I'm back! Killed myself working on the car

Ok, so I needed a TB job done. Thought the long weekend would be a good time to start.
The holidays have been crazy, we had a huge wind storm, it knocked out power & internet.
We had power, but the GF's parents had a tree fall & were staying with us.

Anyway, back to the car....
This is the list.......
1. TB, water pump, thermostat, all the pulleys & tensioner.
2. ECS lightweight pulleys they do not underdrive, just loose weight.
3. AWE IC's
4. RS4 oil cooler
5. APR snub mount
6. Ceramic coated the inlet pipes, & APR Bi-pipe.
7. Cam seals & new valve cover gaskets
8. CV joint boots

I took a couple of pics, ended up taking me 3 full days!!!!

So getting the car in "service mode" is a bit of work. I found a short cut for the next time. It's all the wires & hoses that are time consuming.
The TB job is easy, very easy. It's really only about 2hrs of work. It's the front clip & all the things that need to be removed that are a PITA.

Anyway, we got the TB job done, put the covers back on, and found out we forgot the thermostat! Well off comes the TB again.
Put in the new thermostats.

Get everything back in one piece, front clip is back on. Put in the coolant. Start the engine....
Water leaking from the bottom of the engine. Did we forget the radiator hose? Nope. Found out the WP is leaking.
Take the whole front end off again, remove the TB, again, this is 2nd time. Turns out the WP gasket slipped down on the top into the coolant
passage. This time, I sealed the gasket to the WP, & reinstalled. This time everything worked out great.

Snub mount, takes 5min with the car in service position.
RS4 Oil cooler. Took about an hour. everything bolts right up. The part that bothered me was ECS not sending any of the bolts with the kit.
They also forgot to give the oil filter adapter. So right now the cooler is installed but not hooked up. Thanks ECS.
ECS pulleys, easy, since you have to remove everything but the ALT pulley for the TB install. Even that was easy. Since I have a impact gun,
the ALT bolt came off easy.
AWE IC's not hard to install. The instructions SUCK, they SUCK hard! Besides the cutting (not hard) getting the passenger side IC in is a PITA,
it barely fits. There is also only one way to get it in. On the drivers side you need to relocate the horn. But it doesn't tell you where or how.
The first time, the bumper would both fit so I had to play around with the horn mount to get the bumper to fit. The shrouds also needed a little
trim.

Now on to the fun parts!
The valve covers & cam seals are a ROYAL PITA. When a shop tells you it's a 12hr job, and cost $2800, they are not messing with you!!
The TB needs to be off, the cams need to come out, and there is no room! I dropped my tools a dozen times, we spent about 3hrs just
looking for fallen bolts & tools. The combi valves on the back of the heads are a PTIA, there is no room, and no tools fit. This took
about an hour per side to remove. This is not taking into account the little tool used that fell, and got lost about 5 times. Or time looking
for the dropped bolt. We found everything, but it took time! My lower back was KILLING ME! Taking just the valve covers off & replacing the
gaskets is a 4-5hr job. I must say the VCG is a POOR design. I totally see why they leak all the time. This took a whole day in it's self.
My back, legs, & hands were done. My hands are all cut up, my lower back is in spasms. But no more leaks!

CV joint. While not hard at all, it's a PITA. Very, very, very messy. This was a little Audi gift! When we took the passenger side tire off, we
noticed grease on the inside, yup, the boot let go. I just happened to order the boot kits a while ago. The main CV bolt is torqued on there
hard! My 240ftlbs impact gun would not budge it. We ended up using my jack handle on a 1/2in drive ratchet. Cleaning all the grease out
of the CV joint is also a messy job.

lastly, the bumper is a PITA to remove & install. With the AWE IC's & shrouds the bumper needs a little love to fit. It kept getting hung up
on the headlight washers. I really dislike how much mussel it takes to remove the bumper.

Anyway, the car is now in one piece, runs great! Not sure how much the Ic's help in winter, but the pulleys really do help the engine spool
my turbo response seams much nicer. The car is also much smoother. Next time the VC leak, I'm paying some one to due the work!

I'll try & post some pics later....

AWE said to me that there coolers were easy to fit, but i knew betta as u said 2k[:'(]

I thought the RS4 oil coola took a bit of cutting to fit and isnt the easiest of fits for the S4 coz of diff bumpers?

there not to hard to fit in. But it's not a simple drop in. However, I have been told over & over, that they are much easier to fit
then the RS4 units.

The oil cooler was a direct bolt in. It attaches to the bottom of the radiator, with new rubber mounts.

2k wat i was trying to say is that if u have a DTS wich stiffens up things u need some thing to absorb some of the vib, and i thought the snub mite cuase more vibration, i will get one an see

I was gunna do the Bi pipe to but did the MTM TBB+braket, coz some of the 'experts' on the other forums believe the ruff castings on the inside of the BiPipe causes to much turbulence and creates too many eddys in the air going to the TB

Wile u were at it u shood have done the K04s

Huge applause

A fellow cam seal replacement guy and TB guy. I did both on my 4.2 before I had VAST do the S8 conversion (even then I had THEM do the cam seals before they put in the motor). I extend a huge amount of respect, not a easy thing to do. The only good thing is that I was able to leave the cams in. even then I considered it a pain in the A$$. Definitely needs to be a better design. Great job the car looks great

I am with you on the ECS sucks tip they didn't send me the entire TB kit for my 4.2. I was less than pleased.

Once again great job looks super clean

The snub goes into the front clip, it's plastic, so that should absorb some vibrations. It's also not really tight in there, it has some wiggle room. The engine mounts should absorb all the vibration you need.

Also the DTS has a rubber mount in it. So it's not like you are solid mounting things.

Yea, K04's would have been nice, but I didn't' pull the engine, and hopefully never will, I'll pay to have that done.
