Looking to Buy B5 S4
well around here (country VT) we only have a couple guys from the shariffs department and then state troopers on the highways. the sheriffs are easy to detect while the troopers have laser. if they are flipping their radar on and off it is an uneffective reading. you can use that to fight a ticket. of course the best way to beat a ticket is to not speed. I only push it in 50+ zones and interstates.
Drive safe.

yep there is some good advice, the only place I push it is where there are no places for the cops to hide, or i can see for miles where it is flat and there are none. yea and i only push it in ones over 50 too, cuz i think they are more forgiving there
Ok so my search continues and I have been thinking about a 3.0L A4. I know the power and torque is very similar between this and the S4 but does anyone know how similar they are in terms of actual driving? I think finding the A4 will be easier to find than the S4 with the right price and mileage. Or am I crazy and how could I ever think about getting just a regular old, bland A4??[sm=badidea.gif]
Well I ended up taking the original S4 over to a local auto shop who deals with S4s and other Euro cars for a look over. In the end it looks like a right rear differential seal is bad, the auxiliary cooling pump is leaking, and it needs a new set of brakes up front. So that plus the water pump, timing belt, serpentine belt, and a few seals seems like the things that need to get replaced. I got an estimate of about $4700 with parts+labor. Does this sound reasonable or a bit high?
I've got the car down to $15,500 so another $4700 brings it up around $20200. Are the things mentioned above reasonable things that are expected to go?

That is insanse for an aux pump, a brake job and a axle flange seal.

I'd say it's cheaper then the dealer! Really with OEM parts, that's not all that bad. My local dealer quoted me $3500 just for the upper head seals.
cantdrive55 - The pictures look awfully familiar and I saw this car up at the dealership in Manassas, VA. I drove it a bit, 10 miles I guess, down Compton road. It was in OK physical shape if there is 4700 bucks worth of repairs then the car is certainly not worth it. PFS has a Red Autoright down the street, didn't take a look at that one myself. I'm going to look into purchasing though an auction.

Yea I took a look at the red one down at Peter Farrell's and it was beat. Seats worn, and it had something like 86k on the clock. Plus a previous owner was a smoker and it still smells like they just got out of the car...
Shawn, what was AutoTrademark asking when you looked at it? They seem to jumble a bit on prices.

I didn't talk prices...My father is in the business, and I'm going to use a connection to get a car through an auction. A little more risky, but I'll probably pick one up for around 12 to 14grand. Generally, there is a 4 to 7+ grand markup on all cars.
Strange for PFS to have such a ragged out ride, must have got it cheap...
