power outlet or cig lighter?

Default power outlet or cig lighter?
ok so a noob question here. i have an 01 s4and a radar dector. it stays on when the car is off and dosnt goof after 8min like most cars. so my question is will the dectorever turn off or is it jsut perminatly on?

the outlet will always stay. It doesnt matter that much for the radar detector tho bc it draws very little power.
