Default Time to revisit a question: Should I have my hood repainted

A few months after getting my S4, I caught a rock of some type when passing a construction site in New Haven, on a local street. I left a small dent about the size of a green pea in circumfrance, and about 1/10th of an inch deep. It also scratched some paint off in the surrounding area which I had touched up with the same color of my car (dolphin gray).

However, I am at the point where I feel the blemish is lessening the enjoyment for me of my car. I've had quotes of $500 and $405 to have it filled and the hood repainted and coated with clear coat. The question is whether or not the newly painted hood will match 100%. I've heard yes, and yet some people say a good eye can tell the difference. I have a good eye so I don't want to be worse off and $400 poorer for the effort. Its hard to believe its impossible to have this hood restored to 100% factory appearance, does Audi have certain body shops that are gauranteed to match paint?

It angers me you have dolphin grey and I dont. That being said, if your going to spend that much money to start with I say go with a CF hood. If your going to get the check book out anyway you may as well loose some wiight in the process.

Your comment made me laugh. I love the color most along with black, but an S4 is beautiful in any color other than green

This carbon fiber hood thing I keep hearing about, is it not like, black/greayish? I've seen such things on Civics in my neighborhood. Will it really look good on an S4 to have everything gray and shiny and then this blackish hood? I have to drive around to hedge funds with this car and project a professional appearance, I'm not sure carbon fiber is going to help that, although I'm eager to learn more about it anyway.

Lastly, the weight savings, how noticeable will it be on my accelleration? I have an unmodded Tip.

I'm not sure about the carbon fiber hood? I like them but it's a very limited number of vehicles that they look good on. If you take your car to a body shop that the local Audi stealership uses, they should be able to match the paint without a problem. A good body shop will blend the hood into the quarters and make it look pretty good.

Well, my thought was a CF hood painted dolphin grey. I hate the look of rice lookin ones unpainted but I would have one painted for sure. Anything to go faster.

That's a good idea. I was picturing the played out normal carbon fiber color. Dolphin Grey carbon fiber would look pretty sweet. If you do it, get some pics up.

hes talking about painting the cf dolphin grey so you wouldnt be able to see the CF. Saves a whole loe of weight, and still looks stock. It's not an uncommon upgrade.
