werid sound when turning

i got this really high pitched squeak when i turn my steering wheel all the way to the right or to the left. anyone tell me why?

does it sound like a belt squeal or like a mechanical squeal? if it's the latter, it could be your power steering fluid is low; not low enough to feel it in the steering, but low enough to cause the pump to have low volume and cavitate.

If it does it the majority of the time when you are turning your wheel, the power steering pump could be going out.

when you turn all the way to the limit and hold it it puts strain on the PS pump and that is what you are hearing. You should NEVER hold a car steering system against full lock, backing off just a fraction of a turn is fine. I had a frined doing donuts in the snow with his Evo and he ended up burning up his rack and pump doing that...

yea its normal to hear a sound when you turn the wheel all the way, depending on how loud it is. check the fluid level in ur pump if the sound is particularly distressing.
