2010 s5, oil level gauge is erratic
changed the oil, as I have done several time before. Only had 7 1/2 quarts of synthetic 0w-40, put it in, drove 15 miles to get more oil, MMI showed level about in the middle. then on the way home, it gave me a "add up to 1.5 quarts of oil, you may drive to service facility". Got home, added 1.5 quarts, for total of 9.0. Still got the same reading of low oil level. Added another quart, still got same message, after several cutoffs and restarts. Added another quart, and still got the same message, but then after about 5 miles of driving, got the excessive oil level reading, and was told to drain off oil. So, knowing I had two quarts too much in the car, I drained off two quarts.
Now, I get a completely erratic reading. It will come on and say I need to add 1.5 quarts, and then in 15 seconds, it will say that I need to drain off oil. And it continues to give both readings when I drive it. I know there is no more than 9.0 quarts in the car, and no less than that either.
No leaks, gauge in center of display shows these signals, and the MMI also shows both signals. It will NOT show the actual level, just the "too much oil" or "not enough oil" every 15 seconds or so.
Obviously, the sensor is somehow screwed up. Any suggestions?
