1991 Audi 100 hard downshifting
Hi everyone,
I purchased a very clean 91 Audi 100 from a mechanic friend of mine today. The car was taken care of very well and only has 75k miles. It does has a few issues though. My Friend has been servicing this car at his shop since 96 and for the past 7 years its had a tranny problem. Its an auto first of all. The tranny shifts fine when upshifting during accellerating. If I were to go from a stop up to say 40mph and let off the pedal abrubtly it upshifts quite hard. It seems like if you floor it or are VERY light on the gas pedal it shifts ok. The problem is with quick on/off gas and braking leading to hard up and down shifting. Thats my bigger problem.
The other is much more of a minor nuisance. Most of the switches, windows/seat memory/etc, have burnt out backlighting. Are these bulbs that can be replaced or are they leds that need to be repaired?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
Brian

in most cases with the older automatics its either one of two things and thats ATF fluid & filter and setting of the kick down cable which is most common ( too much slack in the cable )
it needs to be set ( nothing wrong with the cable I hope ) its just slack so when you accelerate it slow to respond so not measured to the accelerator and this is finite because its an automatic
on the older automatic cars you have 2 cables side by side ( accelerator and kick down cable on the throttle body ) 1mm can effect the gear change on the kick down cable
edit: so the kick down cable must not be slack and should move with the accelerator cable and equal travel, there is a measurement but ill check it later but its approx 2mm free movement before the kick down equals the accelerators movement
