Hi Dave,

I have a new 2007 a3 2.0t with only 1500 miles on it. I hear this light grinding noise during moderate acceleration from the bottom or maybe front of the car. The sound comes out at around 2800-3500 rpm especially when gear shifting. that sound dissapears at high rpms. when im driving on the highway at around 100kmh and accelerate on 6th gear without downshifting it also makes that sound. Inside it sounds like a grainy sandy noise like theres sand flying around inside your hood. with the windows open it sounds like grinding but it isnt major like gear lashing or other loud grinding. to me it might be a problem with the turbo spooling. Took in into the dealer several times and they said its normal, they say its the dv and the computer trying to divert boost when you dont need it. im thinking that's just bsbecause dv'sdont have a constant sound when accelerating right?anyways hope you're expertise can confirm that there's something wrong.

thanks so much and i hope to hear form you soon. its not normal this sound could be an imbalanced flywheel and components and should be checked ASAP, just because its new doesn't mean its immune from common faults, DV I doubt it because its a frequency noise and the DV has no rotating parts
