Unhappy 01 a4 wont shift help.

i have an 01 A4 w/ stock clutch. i was at a red light and sitting in first, light turn green and i go but then it wouldn't come out of first. i pulled over and turned it off. tried to move it in and out of gears and it moved with the car off, started it in neutral and it wouldnt go into any gears.turned it off, put it in second and started it up when tried to drive it, it went and i drove home like that. what do you think the problem cud be?

ok cool well thnx for the info. I was actualli thinkin a diff route becuz i was able to get it home by starting it in 3rd gear n riding it. But when i got home i tried starting it in each gear and she turned with no prob but i let go of the clutch to see wat happens and she stalled out. i tried in each gear and she stalled. So i kinda threw the idea of the clutch out. Now im thinkin it might be the syncros but ima drop the tranny today n check her out. keep ya posted. again thnx

I would agree here the shifter popping out of gear wouldn't be the clutch itself. I would look at the shifter linkage as well, i think your on the right path as far as a syncro. Could be a bent fork as well ? Also check your fluid, mabey the friction disc isn't fully engaging.
