help me out guys i have an audi a4 1997 1.8 t the car itself wont reverse the check engine is not on or nothing sometimes it goes on reverse and sometimes it doesnt is it the transmission or some electrical a fuse or what can it be

 

Will the actual gear selector go into reverse?

 

You will know that whether it's a transmission problem itself or just an electronic one as soon as you watch the direction letters panel (P R N D 4 3 2). Shift the gear to reverse (R) and watch the panel if the R letter is highlighted red. If it is then the electrical systems are ok, if that doesn't highlight or all the letters are highlighted whether you shift to any direction then you should go to diagnostics center and reset the error with the help of special diagnostics comp. It's that simple costing you around 10-20 USD. If it's not that then the problem is in your transmission shifter. That costs 100 USD in my country, that may vary depending on place.
