Well I'm not sure about this car, but some cars (including my 300ZX) had a lockout for first gear, which prevented going into that gear above a certain road speed. This was only on first gear, and would prevent engaging first at any speed above 15mph or so, to safeguard the engine in case a nimrod was driving or you mis-shifted. I don't recall reading anywhere about that being in place on this car, but it could be to some extent. FWIW, on the Z, swapping transmission fluid to something like Redline MT90 sometimes helped to allow you to shift into first at a slightly higher speed (handy during an autocross event).

Yeah every morning when i leave at 7:10 I pull out of my drive way then street, try to put it in second and NOPPEEE no goo i have to pull hard. But once its warmed up its completely fine.

BTW i really want to know will this thing actually help. Becuase i have driven a lot of manual cars and the audi by far has the most "slop" between gears.

hard shifts between 1st and 2nd i agree, comes with the colder weather especially when the vehicle is cold
if it still does it when youve driven for a while then idk but i know al my standard vehicles have done that, good luck man

o btw... is it normal when ur driving at about 15-20mph sometimes even less (like 8-12mph)and its pretty much impossible to shift into 1st. why is that. i find it really annoying....but yea i get the hard shifting in the cold and the tuds so i guess its normal.
Most cars' manual transmissions 1st gear, (Including all three manuals I have owned: 1977 Pontiac LeMans, 1993 Saab 9000 & 2001 Audi A4) is not designed for traveling. It's designed to set the car in motion from a dead stop. My old Saab and my current Audi had/have a very difficult time getting into 1st unless the car is at a dead stop. 2nd gear is deep enough once the car gets moving 5+ mph.

Any transmission issues (shifting 1st to 2nd) should be eliminated once the car and transmission warm up.
