Default Buying 97 A4...what to look for?

Hey I'm new to the site and I'm possibly looking to buy a 97 A4 2.8L for $7900...reasonable price? What should I look/ask for as far as common problems? I'm going to test drive it tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for your help!!!

Like sandman said, timing belt and worn front suspension parts.

Also check brake disks for cracks, rust and wear, brake hoses and battery/battery charging.

Make sure to check the CV boots as well.. they may be split and leaking grease (and for how long who knows?)

Check to make sure ALL THE SPEAKERS WORK!! sometimes they put aftermarket speakers in the rear (with non-bose) and take out the amp rendering them useless.

drive with the radio OFF for a while as well listen for any noises. A clicking when turning will be bad CV.... a clunk over potholes/bumps will be tie-rods /ends a squeak over bumps will be control arms... put the windows up and down... test the sunroof to make sure it opens and closes good (may need to be greased) Check the oil level, and all fluid levels. how does the clutch feel? (manual only) slippy at all?

HMMM what else.......

I will let you know if I think of more
