The car is not sensing less current draw, its simply sensing the lack of current flow of one of the headlights. Also, the HID kit doesn't even draw current to power the bulbs through the original headlight wiring; it draws it through the direct connection to the battery. The low-beam wire simply trips a relay that allows the ballasts to get power.

All you need to do is put one resistor (on the side not used for the HID harness) that goes from the low-beam wire to ground. I don't know what resistance value to use, but you can probably search and find what others used.

Finally, the reson this message doesn't show up on some cars is because it is a feature on newer A4's. I'm not sure which year they started, but my 97 doesn't have this problem.

Well, lets say I were to just wire the ballasts to the original headlight wiring instead of using the seperate aftermarket harness, could the original headlight wiring actually take the wear and tear of the large current during power up??? The reason they use seperate harnesses is to not fry the factory harness which is usuall tied into the engine harness, so I guess I'm asking if the Audi original headlight harness would be ok with the extra load...

I honestly don't think it would be a problem, especially since it draws less current overall, but the engineers that designed it apparently didn't want to take that risk.

I did the plug and play install... if you dont know what that is search damnit!!!

It doesn't set off the burned lightbulb signal cause nothing is left unplugged.

Peace

What does "Problem solved!! (well kind of)" mean? what didn't it fix?

And if you don't know what plug and play HID kit means, it means there are tow connections to going to the ballast - one plugs into the your existing wiring harness(where you facory bulbs pluged into) and the other connects to the new HID bulb. there are no wires run to the battery or ground wire.

1. i know what plug and play means.

2. I said problem seolved (well kind of): "problem solved" means im done with the thread... and "kind of" means that the way I solved my issue wasnt the way I originally planned on (adding a resisitor was what I thought ofdoing.) because I ended up removing the relay and harness and just doing the plug and play install.
