I bought a '96 A4 in Oct. of 05. It works great except,a few months ago my cruise started acting up and suddenly quit. I took it to the a dealer and the wanted about $300 to fix it. Ihave yet to fix it. In the mean time,a few weeks ago the high and low beams quit working all together. The only lights i have left isif i rubber band thehigh/lowcontrol to the light on/off control. Any ideas? Are the two problems related?

 

both are vacuum operated based on the older cars so I could be wrong, vacuum pipe broken or worn

I didnt think my cruise control worked either until about 2 days ago when i was messing with it while i was driving and all of a sudden it worked. and now it doesnt again... I think the combination switchis bad in my car too but i'm not sure.
