Default 1st gear boost

I have a 04 a6 2.7t 6sp, it's all stock. the car runs great but it doesn't seem to have boost in 1st gear. 2nd-6th gear boost comes on at 2000rpm and everything is great. Does the A6 ecu tell the n75 valve to open in first gear? If so, will a chip stop the n75 valve from opening in 1st gear?

thanks

Im just taking a guess but could it have to do with gearing ratios? Maybe you do have boost in 1st gear but the engine is accelerating more quickly than boost can accumulate. Even with small turbos there is still a tiny amount of time that it takes the intake to pressurize when the turbos are pushing more air in than the engine can use (which results in boosted power when that pressurized air is forced into the piston).

when you rev the engine in neutral the engine has no resistance and accelerates freely, meaning to chance for boost. Maybe 1st gear is the same kind of scenario, then 2nd and up give enough resistance to acceleration that the turbos can do thier job and compress air.

This is my best guess at least

if he's noticing a lack of boost, i'd almost have to assume the motor isn't outrunning the turbos. not that i have any idea what the problem might actually be...

It's been a long time since I ran an unchipped engine, but my boost seems to come on around 3000 rpm and is very strong over 4000 rpm. Over 3500-4000, the car accelerates very strongly in 1st-3rd. Chip it.

Jhuffman, you're somewhat correct. I called chris at APR and he told me 1st gear is too short and too lower for the boost to build up. the n75 meausures engine load and the APR software works on enigne loads.
