2004 A6 2.7T, Rear Breaks question
Does anyone know what an average price is for a full rear break replacement? For a 2004 A6. I went to a dealer and gave me an estimate of $499. (Includes Rotors and Pads). They told me it was necessary for the rotors to be changed due to wear and tear. I have about 92k on the car, but the pads are not grinding or anything like that. Just very thin rotors. And is this common?
Any recommendation websites where I can get the rotors and pads where they have excellent quality at a reasonable price?
Thank you much

Rear rotors usually don't need replacing unless you ride them pretty hard, the front rotors are the ones that take all the abuse. If you want to get rotors there are a bunch of sites to buy them from, www.ecstuning.com, www.purems.com, www.germanpartsonline.com etc.
purems is probably the cheapest for brakes.

Rear rotors will take a beating in the winter time due to the traction control, Electronic Limited Slip and Electronic Stability Program all of which use the rear brakes. You can get away with too thin rear rotors for a time as long as you have pad material. I would keep using them until the pads are gone or close to gone, then get them replaced. It is not a very tough DIY job.

One suggestion is try new 2000-2003 S8 rear rotors and used cailper assy from same year I think the audiworld site shows the particulars. Adds another 1" diameter and vented. My 2001 2.7 has this set up and it works although I never noticed a performance difference.
