99 A6 thinking of buying. newb here
hi all,
planning on getting rid of my maxima (crappy car) and picking up an A6. Here are potential problems with it:
1. very high miles - 167000
2. don't know if transmission has been replaced. Are automatics reliable?
on the other hand it's in mint condition. but she's asking too much I think - $9200.
What can I expect to go wrong in the car? I'm pretty handy, but I wouldn't replace a tranny by myself ...
any help would be appreciated. I'd like to know all potential things that would have to be replaced/repaired, how much it would cost, and whether I can do it myself. Thanks!

Once you purchase your first Audi you will never go back to something different.
Ive had them for 10 years now, the one ive got now is my 3rd, a A6 2.5 tdi estate, its quite a rare car but the ride and reliability is 2nd to none.
I cant comment on the price of this particular car as i live in the uk and the prices differ, all i will say that if they have a full Audi or VW service history you wont go far wrong, irrespective of mileage.
Buy it if thats the case, you wont be dissapointed.
Only thing i know with the higher mileage cars to watch out for are the Steering rack (leeks).
If it aint got full service history get it checked out by a main dealer and get an expert opinion.

I had a 1995 audi A6 got it with 133K miles.
The auto tranny was not the best but on par with others of the time, i suppose.
Sadly i crashed it and am now looking for another audi. I think i'm hooked.
