that means the chances of are valve strike when the timing belt snaps is a lot less thean interference engine which in most cases is guaranteed

I cant really answer that question because Audi don't have a time/mileage limit to change it so its down to you ( personally I would stick to 90k changes ) and check condition every half of that

Toothed belt for camshaft drive: checking for damage, measuring width of toothed belt (4-cyl. TDI engines up to and including model year 1999 -X-)

–
Release the two tensioning clips at the top of the toothed belt cover and upper edge of cover forwards.

–
Check condition of toothed belt for:

t
Cracks, cross-sectional fractures

t
Layer separation (toothed belt body, cord strands)

t
Break-up on toothed belt body

t
Fraying of cord strands

t
Surface cracks (synthetic coating)

t
Traces of oil and grease

WARNING

Any faults found must be rectified (repair measure).

–
Measure toothed belt width -a-.

t
Wear limit = 22 mm

WARNING

If width of toothed belt is less than 22mm it is essential that you renew the toothed belt (repair measure).

even though that's for the 4 cylinder the procedure for checking the belt is the same
