Considering buying...
So I have been researching the A6 for about 2 months. I checked with several lots/dealers and they do not have the car I want. What I want is an '01 or older A6 2.7t with the 6-speed.
Ill just come out and ask: Does anyone in eastern Kentucky own this car that would let me drive one? Sure, I can go to Audi and drive an '09, but they are all automatic (boo). Anyhow, I have driven one around in a parking lot, and I rather liked it, but I need to actually drive one like more than 1000 feet.
I have chosen the '01 or older because (as I believe) they did not use the smart key/immobilizer systems until '02 (please correct me if I am wrong). As is asked often, this will not be my first car, and yes, I can afford the labor/parts.
Thanks!

The a6 is a good choice since you can afford the repairs! They didnt start using the smart key light on the dash till 03. The 98's and up have the programed key but not to the same effect. I am not sure what scares you about this as I have had both. The turbos on the 00-02 had problems with the oil feed lines to the turbos. If the previouse owner wasnt on the ball with oil changes they are probably gunked up. Big problem to change them as you have to drop the motor out of the car. The whole job including new turbos at the dealer runs about $4500.00. The 03 / 04 turbos had larger diameter feed lines and less problems. Also had more power in the s-line models. There is an 01 a6 with the 2.7t and manual slush box for sale in CT right now! Might be to far for you. They are out there! I know you said not to worry about it but I must point out that a used audi that was not properly taken care of will break the bank unless you are a mechanic! Keep 2k aside for the timing belt / h20 pump also! Good luck!!!
