Dreaded steptronic gearbox problem !!
Hi new on here and need some help.. Just bought a Audi A6 2.5tdi auto 2001. When I bought this I suspected a slight niggle with the auto box but it was too good a buy to resist, as had been recalled by Audi because of a missed inspection and they put a new engine and intercooler in at 134k at cost of over £7k. Car has now done 144k. The problem i've got is the auto box is very jerky around the 1600 to 2000 rev range and isn't smooth. The lights on dash sometimes flash but thats hit and miss and even when they do the auto still works, just that i can't use steptronic. Really annoying as the gearbox works pretty ok, apart from this bit and once above 2000 revs its not too bad. Once warm the other thing is it seems to ****** from standstill. The other problem is the reverse can be pain to engage, sometimes it goes in first time, then other times you have to toggle between neutral and reverse and it eventually engages. have read about these gearboxes but that was after i bought car. Such a nice car that unless I can get this sorted is going to have to go. Any ideas much appreicated.

I would do an oil and filter change and see if that helps, don't flush it, just drain and refill. If this doesn't fix it, you may need to get it to an expert for a diagnosis. Not going into reverse is usually an indication that it needs repair.
