Steering Wheel won't stay in place
The steering wheel in my 2000 A6 won't stay in place when I shutdown or start my car. I worked on the stereo a little bit a few weeks ago and since then the steering wheel always retracts when I shut off, then sometimes it moves back to the original position sometimes it doesn't when I start up again. I tried disconnecting the battery to clear the control module but it didn't work. Is reprogramming the control module the only way to fix this problem? Also, can someone please explain why Audi/VW has such horrible electrical engineers, is it a German thing?

RE: Steering Wheel won't stay in place
Perhaps it wasn't working before and now it is! The power steering wheel is a memory controlled unit along with the seats. It is built and designed to retract out of the way when you shut down the vehicle to facilitate easy entry/exit. When you start the car back up (depending on which key you use) the steering wheel should automatically telescope down and out to the position you have memorized with your seat settings and to your key fob.

reaper, I believe you're right. When I bought my car a year ago it never retracted for entry/exit. However, now it sometimes moves back to position and sometimes it stays retracted when I start the car, there is no consistency. Also I do have the memory seat/steering wheel programmed, which means it should move into position every time.

Is this steering wheel memory-thing a standard on all the models, esp asking about my '03? I think mine has a manual adjustment for moving up/down...not retracting. I read the manual pretty thoroughly and never noticed this mentioned.
