Default That weird Transition from 12V to 30V

I know very few of you are in this nitch but I don't ever know if I am ok or not... so once and for all:

I have an A6 with the 1997 30V 2.8 (atleast according to all my manuals and the engine cover and all), but when I go to get parts, everything indicates that I have a 12V because the 30V was not offered in the A6 Avant until 99 or any A6 until 1998. I know it is the 1997.5 because I have the 16inch wheels, and I know it is stock and not a replaced engine because I have all the service records.

So my question is, other than the 30 valves is there a difference in parts for the two?

You know, oil filters, Serpentine Belts, timing belts?

I got a timing kit from Shokan for the 12V and it fit and worked fine. THe oil filter always suggests I need an 8994, but I have always had an 8A on it so I get the 8A. But at some point I wonder if I am going to get screwed?

My near future purchases are 4 O2 sensors and the website says on the 97 A6 "12V" it is 4 wire in the front and 3 wire in the back of the cats. But it also says on the 98 30V it is 4 wire all around. Big difference, but, I don't have a 12V or a 98 so I don't get it. *and really it would be a 99 because the 98 Avants were the same as the 97s.

Think im in a similar boat.... 97 A4 2.8 with 16inch wheels, is there a significant visual difference between the 2 engines to determine which is which?
