Unless that is something that just started, it is pretty common for water vapor (condensate) to appear when the engine and exhaust are cold, especially on colder mornings. The petrol smell is due to the choke being on. If ithe white vapor disappears after the engine and exhaust warm up, I would not worry about it. You might also notice some droplets of water from the tip of the exhaust pipe for the same reason. As the whole system becomes hot, the vapor is burned off before it becomes noticeable. This is why short trips, which cause water vapor to form and be retained in the exhaust system, leads to said exhaust system rusting from the inside out.

I've never had a head gasket leak or cracked block, but my understanding is that when this happens the car blows continuous huge clouds of white "smoke" (vapor). Maybe someone else has some better thoughts.

ppgoal is on the money.

Have a compression test and a leak down test to see what's going on. If the vapor smells sweet, coolant is being introduced into a combustion chamber and being let out through the exhaust values into the tail pipe.
