Mine handle broke too...bottom plastic piece. Wow.

 

2003 Audi A4 convert. glove box lever acted like it was locked. I was able to take off the side panel (with online help) and pried the door open just enough to get access to the latch which I was able to manually release. With the door open I could see that a piece of double-faced tape was stuck to the tip of the latch piston. I removed the tape and the door worked fine. With the door now open I grasped the latch piston and kept it from retracting when I used the opener handle. The opener handle was acting like it was locked, just as it had when the tape was keeping the piston from retracting.
The latch works fine now.
