batt keeps dying but why?
hey whats up i have a 02 tt and the batt keeps going out and everytime i turn it off the radio goes into safe mode.. any idea whats going on? i've already replaced the batt.. any ideas?
There must be something that is drawing current, not always easy to find out. It goes in to safe mode if you unhook the battery as a safety feature, thats normal. Is this on your tt coupe or your gfs vert?
Check Your alternator.
The fault code should read as Battery Voltage less than 30%. Unfortunately when my alternator failed that was the only fault code given. You can drive your car on a fully charged battery for about 30:00 before it will die. But if it does die it will suck as you will be left stranded. This car does not have a distributor so the current for the ignition has to come directly from the battery. There are few ways to check your alternator, they are listed below:
First, take it to autozone and let them load test it.
Second, Check what rpm the engine idles at after starting. If you battery is as dead as you say it the revs will go up to about 1200rpm after starting in order to recharge the battery. If your alternator is in died dead the engine will still idle at the normal 800rpm. This is especially true if you jump it which it sounds like you will have to do.
Third, jump the car and drive it around the neighborhood. Get up to about 30mph in 2nd gear and floor it, and I mean pedal to the metal. Accelerate at full throttle all the way up to 6k at full throttle. If your alternator is putting out a low output the alternator light (The little red one shaped like a battery) will begin to blink.
If this occurs do not drive the car any farther as the alternator is dead and will get stranded unless you carry like 2 batteries in the trunk or something crazy. You will have to either replace it at home or tow it to a shop.
The alternator is not a tough job it takes about an hour or 2 and I paid$175.00 at o'reilly's for mine. I hope this helps.

i tightened the terminals already and checked all fuses also all grounds i could see.. i dont believe its the alternator it doesnt act like it is anyways no loss of power while driving .. it just seems like something is drawing power from the batt slowly because it will be fine for like a week or so and then it will just be dead and have to jump it or charge it.. i took it to autozone and they said there was nothing they could do since i had already tightened the terminals... and now if things werent worse the batt wont charge anymore.. and my car wounldnt start today either.. i think my starter went out.. but thats another post lol.. i'm going to check everything out tomorrow any more ideas? oh and its my gfs vert btw..
this was happening to me and it was because a brake light switch was bad and my tail lights were staying on at all times, pretty hard to notice in daylight, not so much at night obviously. . . but it was intermittent and drove me nuts for about 2 weeks.
during that time my cruise control would act up too, apparently they run through the same switch or circuit or something?
you prob would have noticed by now if this was it but worth a shot
