No you do not need to remove the top. I sat in the passenger seat on my knees backwards with the top up. Access was difficult, but I eventually got it. Good luck, let us know if you get it.

I've determined top should be in vertical position and headrest removed. After removing 2 nuts above the ECU and slipping module free, difficulty was getting the 5 connectors off. Problem was some greenish corrosion that made them stick. Used Deoxit on both sides of connection using old toothbrush; apparently removed corrosion. After reassembly, unfortunately keyless entry still does not work.
Hi Amonty,

Just curious if finished this job?

I am going through the same issue right now.

Did you have any pictures or advice?

Thanks

I did not rush to post the summary of this job as I was not successful in getting the remote locking function to work, even though I got the control unit out.
Anyway ... How to get the CCM module out

1. With the top straight up, open the passenger side access panel above the CCM and then use a 10 mm socket with extension to remove the two 10 mm nuts holding the top of the box. I felt these blindly and removed then blindly.
2. The bottom of the box is held by a clip: move the box back and forth until you can pull it free upwards.
3. Maneuver the freed CCM around to where you can release all of the plugs. There are 5 or so and all but 1 are a single push button release. The main black one was a little difficult with a gentle pry/release on both sides.

Including some photos at this link

Amonty
You can resync the key fob by inserting the key in the door, opening and locking it with the key and then pressing the open and close button within 30 seconds.
