40V in a B5? Yes please.
mtroxel, even though it is a v8, it weighs less than the v6. why? cast iron vs all aluminum. v6- iron block, v8- aluminum. yes, the weight will be distributed differently, but my novice opinion thinks that car will respond better in turns. All that is needed are great motor mounts, cant go cheap on those. busted is gonna have one mean machine once he is finished.
There is no replacement for displacement. That's why im going to tackle this project when I gather the funds and time to do it.
Heck, if I run into problems im ready to assemble the B5 40V team from all around America. I got no worries paying good guys to help a brother out.

Even though it weighs less, my ride height remains at 25" GTF. I attribute this to the fact that the V8 is longer and therefore hangs further forward of the front axle.
In other news, I drove it approximately 12 miles this morning. Still no fans, but I kept my speed over 40 mph and no issues cooling. Still having trouble with the MAF, but even in limp mode it is a monster.

Need Vids!!! Man do I wish I had the time and money to do this! I always thought Audi should of gone with this for the B5 S4...approximate performance and not as much maintenance and repair costs as the 2.7t.
That sits pretty nicely. I'm guessing this is your only B5, but is it your daily driver, too? Super quick turn around on a swap/build. You're going to have to update your signature again.
Does Washington have any laws you'll have to skirt to pass inspection?

Ok you are definetly more electronically inclined than I am but I now am wanting to attempt this!... Only question I have at the moment will the v8 bolt directly to the v6 12v trans? I really would like more power out of my 96! And I am willing to bet there is a lot of performance options for the v8

I see no trouble with WA or any other state emission laws. The engine is newer than the chassis that it went into and I retained all original emissions equipment. All that the state of WA does is charge you $15 each year to plug into the OBDII port and the ECU says "It's all good".
Videos will be forthcoming. New MAF is set to arrive today. Even in limp mode with the MAF unplugged, it is WAY faster than the 2.8L 30V it replaced.
I've never worked on a 12V, but I would imagine that it is the same 01A 5-speed that I have. You will need to source a 30V clutch/flywheel. You will also have to swap pedal clusters as I did because the 40V motors are all DBW. I would not attempt this swap without an entire parts car to work with. There will be lots of random things to pull.
Well, I really wanted my next post to be a video for you guys, but I'm still getting weird codes. Previously I was running no MAF, because the one I had was bad. Yesterday I received my new MAF, plugged it in and now I get misfires on cylinders 1-4 plus the random misfire code. No more MAF codes, but something is certainly wrong.
Any ideas why I would get misfires on half of my engine?
