aeb lifter noise after rebuild
have a b5 a4 1.8t quattro aeb tip tronic
so this summer i took the head off an cleaned it all up and made it all fresh again. got a new chain tensioner w/new gaskets exhaust, intake, head, valve cover, turbo, throtle body, new valve that sits at the begining of the crankcase vent line and the one located in the three way hose under the intake manifold. new head bolts, new timing belt kit with all new belts plus new water pump, idle roller and thermostat, new used stock intercooler because previous one had oil get into it due to a head gasket failer. clean all the tubing that i could. new ngk sparks, new adjustable cam sprocket from autotech, new cat converter with new bosch o2 sensors
mostly just by cleaning everything i was able to clear all of my p3000 codes 01 02 03 04 plus 4 other codes
so i put it all back to gether the first time but didn't notice i had recieve the wrong head bolts. instead of aeb head bolts they shipped me aug or something like that long story short they werent the same so i had coolant get into my oil. so i had to buy new correct bolts which i should of checked but with new parts all over the place (over 2oo lbs of new parts) i didn't think much of it....
so once i got it i put the engine back together and applied a bunch of mobile 1 oil all over the lifters and around the area they sat on but it must of all dripped by the time i got everything else bolted and torqued and when i started the engine it started but the cams hitting the lifters were loud enough
it wasnt pistons hitting valves either, i made sure to manually rotate crank when i alligned timing belt so it only leaves those lifeters. or since i used my old lifters which still looked very good is there a different way of installing then from new lifters???
i ordered assembly lube just in case that was what was missing?? any imput would be greatly appreciated

Call Mike Hood at Ringer Racing. He's a member here and has always been extremely generous in helping people out. He may have info that'll help you.
Are you positive its the lifters? You're supposed to let them sit awhile to let them bleed down. Did you install them in the same places in the same orientation? Do a compression test to verify valves aren't bent. Are you sure the timing chain is timed correctly?
yeah im sure i did everything correct. and i did put them back in and waited more than 30 mins cuz i took my time to do everything correctly
im currently removing my driveline cept two of my allen bolts got rounded out so as i wait for that and its about to rain for the whole weekend out here in sacramento so wont be able to work on it till like mid next week but ill get back at you guys
plus my shipment of assembly lube just arrive so im hoping that will help a bit as well

so the first picture shows both timing marks on the valve cover (top) & crank (bottom) basicsthe second one show's how to realign camshafts if taked out.
has triangle mark on cam cap, rectangular mark on cams. and 16 rollers in between marks with the exhaust ending off by a bit to retard it or something like that??
k so i did all that for the exception that i didn't go with a stock cam sproket, was but it broke because i wasnt carefull... long story short i bought and autotech adjustable cam sproket from 034 Motorsport =D
the only thing was. i was able to align it like the bently book says (bottom pic from above) but when i put the valve cover i saw the marking on the new sproket was off by a bit i'd say 2-3 teeth advancing it?? even though it was adjustable it was still on stock mode. so what i did was just turned the camshaft sproket bolt till it alight with both marks outside but would that explain the lifter noise?? & its not the valve hitting the pistons cuz i double checked. hand cranked it several times (2 revolutions everytime) so i know thats not it
any imput?? does the internal marks cam cap, camshaft, roller & valve and cam sproket have to be all aligned together ??
because the car starts just making the lifter noise and as far as i can see both the crank & cover + sproket marks are aligned
hey a drawing lol
the one to the left (1st one)
is with the internal cylinder head timing marks
second one is with what my autotech sproket looked like once cover was on
notice its a bit off??
what am (or was) supposed to do in this situation?

so got done rebuilding my driveline yesterday!
with that i had the valve cover open to check all the alignment marks
cam to valve
crank
internals (all 3 marks on camshafts & 16 rollers)
everything lined up as it should
i gess my autotech was a bit off but it retarded itself into the exact correct position. i aplied some fresh oil and assembly lube to the camshaft and what i could reach on the lifters and assembled the cover back on. made sure all sensors and wires were connected and started the car
it took two tries but since i had a new timing chain tensioner installed i dont know if its acumulated any oil inside of it yet? becuase its not starting up right away either that or that it hasn't really been on in like 6 months!!!
but everthing looks good so far. only one code has came up p0118
other than that ima be test driving it all day today
but before that i still need to add my exhaut to it and front bumper lol

k so an update:
everything was installed right but last month i ordered all new cam cap bolts and it helled a lot and had the lifters soaked in moli 5-40 synthetic
the only problem im or issue im having with it.... is my new timing belt which came in a kit from blauparts, it seems kinda to really weak becuase everything is perfectly aligned and it has no slack when on top dead center DTC but when you spin it from the crank one revolution you can deff feel some slack... dont know how normal that is but im considering swapping it with a gates racing timing belt & accessory belt this summer
any input?
so car had a rough idle for the longest time and finally cleared all codes except one
i got new coil pack which fixed my P0301 and a new ICM
runs smooth now
