They had no problem resetting the EEPROM for me though, same cluster.
See, that's where what he's saying makes sense. I did do output tests, and I can't remember on which one it was, but on one of the cycles, the display lit up REALLY bright. But it would never show any warnings, low fuel, etc. So I knew it was getting power, well I knew that because it wold show the lines before, and at that point I kinda thought the pixels were fine, because they all lit up, so I just thought it was some kind of error within the display.

I'm torn! I know it doesn't belong there, but its always been there. If I take it off, I'll have to replace it with something else, maybe just a quattro badge.

Not that hard, really. Surprised at how well it turned out!

Hahaha.... Hooked up a cluster from a "98 A6, I knew it wouldn't work. I think I'm the most bored college student ever. But the results were funny to say the least. What did I get? A CEL that doesn't know if it wants to stay on or off, a brake light that stays on, brake pad wear sensor warning, coolant level warning, a fuel gauge that think I have WAY more gas than I do, oil level warning, no tach, lights that stay on, ABS light, AirBag light, and oddly no A/C condenser. Oh and VCDS wouldn't detect it either. Is this what I would get if I put in a '98 A4 cluster?

So... got a DIFFERENT cluster. It's doing the same thing!! It lights up, but won't display info. I emailed Ian to see what he says. I think God's just pissed at me or something.

You should start looking at your wiring for the red plug. Double check that you have the pins in the correct locations, make sure the wires aren't damaged, etc.

Yeah, planned on that today. But that still doesn't make any sense, because the A6 cluster worked perfectly. I could flip through all of the menus before all the errors came up. Is there any way that they like "lock" themselves after so long of not being used?

Got all the V-Dubs together today. It'd be perfect if I could get ahold of my uncles Porsche too...

Come on, it wouldn't be a true family reunion without a few fights!

Does anyone know what this is supposed to attach to? I started to hear it whacking the window inside the door whenever its down.

Does the outside door handle still work on that side?
