Alice's Progress
Update. Got the backlights working, ALL of the lights were bad. Weird. And still no luck with the temp sensor. I triple checked the pins. Anyone know what would cause it not to work? All the plugs were in when I turned it on.
Did the outside air temp gauge work on your old cluster?
Got the radio hooked up (data, enable, clock) to see if my problem was with the original wiring with the temp sensor or the display itself. I found it's the display, because still nothing shows up. Might as well go on wiring and get the display fixed when I'm done. Pretty much all I have left that I want to do is the fuel consumption signal and the coolant level signal. Anyone know where these are? Thanks!
Spent the last two days doing nothing but cleaning my car. I think it payed off though! All day yesterday, I detailed the interior. Cleaned ALL of my plastic trim with Adam's All Purpose Cleaner, looks so much better. Also went down to Ace and rented a carpet cleaner. That took up the majority of my day. You would not believe the **** that came out, I was a little disgusted. I couldn't get it 100% clean though, in a couple areas under the seats the carpet was starting to deteriorate once I went over it one too many times, so I figured I should stop!

Airing it out...

And today was of course all about the outside. Washed it and clay barred it. Then I did a two step severe swirl and haze remover. Followed by a fine machine polish, THEN a glaze. And topped it off with a sealant. I only use Adam's Car Care Products, AMAZING results!

Thanks! And yeah I have. I dunno, there's just something about badge less cars I don't like. No offense, I really don't mean that to be rude, but just not my thing. Oh! and I figured out with my display that it's not my wiring thats the problem, because I ran her completely out of gas, like 1 gallon left, and I never got the low fuel warning. So I guess I just need to get the display changed when I get my EEPROM reset. Reflect Tuning will do that too right?
Emailing Ian from Reflected Tuning about the LCD cluster I sent them. I'm having them do a replacement and mileage reset. He asked me what year it came out of, I said '97. He said "this one just isnt something i can work with. ive been doing this a while a i have never seen one of these before. according to the internet, they seem pretty rare. the lcd on this just isnt something i can work with. it doesnt really have any solder pads on it. like i said, someones been inside it before. the little frame around the lcd wasnt attached all the way." He said he's never seen an LCD cluster before '98. Anyone know anything????

Car looks good, ditch that badge on the grill though!
I'm long overdue to give my interior a real cleaning. The carpets have never been thoroughly cleaned and my seats are looking a little rough.
You didn't do the output test with vag com before sending it off right? I would've started there. At least then you could tell if the pixels worked or if the problem lies elsewhere. If Ian is saying there isn't anything he can do with it there isn't much for me to say. Those guys know a lot more about this than I do. They had no problem resetting the EEPROM for me though, same cluster.
