Default Axle replacement, now ABS issue

So I had my transmission go out (stay away from gl-5 fluids guys...) and while replacing it decided to replace the axles as well, since 3/4 of the boots were torn. Everything went smooth, fired her up, and now I have an ABS light on

The thing is, the light came on before I even moved the car, so it appears to be an electrical issue. I pulled both front sensors out, there are a few scratches on the heads, but nothing major, You'd have to look pretty hard to see them.

The other issue is that the replacement axles don't fully seat into the front hubs; there is about 1/8th inch gap between the axle and the hub before the flange bottoms out. Is this normal?

I've ordered a vag-com cable to see if it's a specific sensor, but I don't remember touching/tugging on the wires going to the sensors. I know that the sensor ring is on there, but when I looked through the hole where the sensor goes I did notice that it was off by the same 1/10th of an inch from dead center. If it's an axle issue, would the abs computer detect it before the car even moves?

TIA!

The axles should sit in there seated tightly. Return the axles.

Sounds like maybe a speed sensor in one of the spindles triggering the ABS light.

Bad sensor or the fact that the axles don't fit right could be causing the sensors to not detect the tone rings. Regardless, I'd get axles that fit ASAFP. you don't want them loose in there.

I believe since there are two different axles for the front there are two different rings. I'm guessing you got 82mm bearings so you'd need the axles to fit those.

Thanks for the replies, that's what I was worried about. I'll probably go with new CV joints from blauparts and reuse my old axles.

^^do not do that. the joints and boots cost more than axles. i know this cause i just bought one last week. i paid 60 for a remaned axle at auto vale less core and 10$ discount i get through the deisel shop down the road. hell, the boot kit is like 40$. why pay that? just get new axles
