Axle too short??
So back in march I hydroplaned into a curb and had to have my front left axle replaced. I used the EMPI W0133-1836054. Today I went to pick up my car cause I had some more work done on it, and the tech pulled me into the garage and showed me how loose the axle was. It appears to be too short and is now rattling/clicking. I ordered it from partsgeek. If they are selling parts that are no good, do they help us out at all, or am I SOL. If I am SOL, which brand should I use that has competitive prices as the EMPI? I guess I will go ahead and replace both front axles now. thanks.
We found exactly that issue with Empi axles for a Passat this spring. They were manufactured poorly. After four of them failing in a combined 100 miles and the problem being found, the owner ordered CV rebuild kits from www.blauparts.com and rebuilt the joints on his OEM axle (which was otherwise fine). It was a simple 15 minute job per axle with zero downside and the knowledge that the axle was good and the new joint was perfectly fine.
thanks guys, thats helps a lot. Do the ones from Shokan come with the cv's like the EMPIs do? Obviously I cant use my original axle, its in a scrap yard somewhere. My front right cv boot is not even there anymore, so I figure its a good idea to just swap them both out, as I am not sure how long the boot has been missing.
