Holy crap! I'm so sorry to hear it, bro. I wonder what the problem was. Cars don't usually just catch fire like that.

Keep us updated! I hope the cost to fix it isn't too much. I'm glad you're keeping the car and trying to fix it tho. Your B5 is one of the most pristine pre-face B5 ever!

Yea i have no idea it had been running great with no issues what so every didnt have any issues on the drive out there. at the moment we think one of the battery cables may have shorted out with the firewall some how. it would explain why it cut out, and then it just completely shorted the everything causing the line to ignite, lighting the lines and cables around it.

i dont care what it cost to fix i WILL fix it even if i have to park it till summer wen i get money. My dad suggested taking what i can from it and scrapping it but the body it fine, so if i have to ill just swap the motor out. Its my first car im to emotionally attached and planned on keeping her forever.

Update: have some questions??

Yesterday i had a chance to start pulling stuff off and from what i could see it doesnt seem to bad still havent looked under the car.
Im trying to figure out where this wire runs too (the bare one) it was completely disconnected and the tip was pretty roasted we think thats what started it all. i was unable to get the car on stands and take my skid plate off since i only had 30 min, but will do that in two weeks over thanksgiving break. So i need a new cable (bare one) that runs from the battery to ______, also a new ground for the battery. hope some one knows where the wire goes cause im pretty sure ill need a new what ever it is. (starter was my first guess??)

What is located under the turbo??(starter?) and has a ground connected to it???

that wire goes to the starter. That's probably what started the fire.

it will cause an instant fire if it touched the other terminal.
