Default Soldering chip to ECU: basic questions

Found a place that specializes in PCB soldering to be my ECU chipped but they do not have experience working on car ECUS. Can anyone explain basically what parts of the audi ECU may need to be removed and where exactly the chp is soldered on? this is for a 99.5 1.8t manual BTW.

what "chip" are you talking about? if its a name brand then you normaly FedEx your ECU to the company your paying and they do it for you then send it back. i hope your not getting this "chip" for $50 off ebay.... if the company you purchased it from cannot answer your question for you then return it and get your money back.

as for where it is, you take your ecu, take the cover off and theres only one PCB. as for exactly which connections to solder, again your chip suppier should give you install instructions if you want to do it yourself.

Take a look at the websites for vendors that sell the ECU upgrades - they may have a pic of the inside of the ECU with their chip installed. Print that pic and give it to the guy who's going to install it for you. Ask him to solder a socket onto the board so that your chip can plug into it. That way if you need to go back on your stock chip (ie, you're upgrading further and need a reflash) you can just unplug the APR chip and send it out, and drive on your OEM chip in the meantime.
