Default Spare tire

I realized that my spare tire is some Goodyear model, while I have Micheline Pilot Exalto A/S. Now, are we supposed to buy 5 tires because of quattro system, or we can use any kind of spare one to get to a tire shop in case of a failure?

The sizes are all the same right?

Regardless, it should be okay to use it for a while until you get a new tire up and running.

The wife just blew her tire on the A6.. swapped the spare without thinking much. Now the front would make a hint of a scraping sound... but there was not much I could do since I had no tire.

I picked up one spare 16" rim from a friend.. and going to pick up the matching 3. I did a measurement this morning and was horrified to see the difference in size!

So.. you are supposed to have tires within 0.25 inch in DIAMETER difference to ride on if you were replacing a tire. The spare tire alone was almost 1.25 inches in diameter SMALLER! Ie no wonder there was that scraping.. the differential musn't have been happy.

Long story short.. I'm sure it's fine to drive at low low speeds (ie it even says less than 50mph in big yellow and black letters on the spare) But for how long? I wouldn't have let her drive it the few miles back and forth to work if I had measured them! Eeesh!

Mine came with full size spare tire (when it was stock). I don't know how there was that 1.25" difference from the spare to full.

Yes on the f'ing small donut that's provided for my stock 16" rims.

I'm throwing that as far as I can now.. and will have my factory rims as a spare.. I told a few of my friends to go check on their donuts.. I will be parting my rims to everyone

I didn't know some actually came with spare donuts.
