t3/t4
Haha wow, i wish i could like send you guys money, this information is priceless. Also ive been thinking and if i dont do my rods (for a little while atleast) what would be a safe boost pressure. I see that the 38mm, with the 1 bar, is good for down to 16 psi. Could i run 16 psi safely with this setup and not break the stocker rods? Also i want room to expand once i get some engine work done. So i might just go with the .63.
18-20psi on either housing will be fine of stock rods. Once you have them in, then you can up the boost to 22-24psi and watch the turbo really wake up. The 50trim really starts making good power in the 23-26psi range and can even make 400whp with the right setup. Later on down the road if you ever want to upgrade, you can always just swap in a dbb chra (center section) and it will spool even faster and make more power since the dbb;s will draw less power. This will make it similur to a 3071r and will cost less to swap chra then adding in a whole new turbo. You would deff want a .63 housing for this
Now for revving. Just because the stock limit is like 6800 doesnt mean thats where you can surpass. The stock head is easily good to 7500rpms and some even push it to 8k daily. With most BT tunes, the rev limit will be raised to either 7300 or 7500rpms and this will make the .63 a little more useful since it will make power all the way out there.
I was in the same situation between the .48 and .63... I chose the .48 due to the fact that i planned on doing my stroker motor and a 35r soon after... it just happened a little sooner than expected... On the stock bore, i really feel the lag would be too great and drivability would be worse on the .63... You could always change out the hotside if needed...
you can fit bigger than a gt30 on that flange...
All the heads are the same except the ports on the AEB are larger (both intake and exhaust all the way through). That wont make revving any different. Plus, there are a crap load of people with an AEB swap on a gti and revving it out to 7500rpms if not higher, so it has been done many times
Cincy your telling me exactly what i want to hear lol. Alright so basically im better off to go with the .48. A tial 38mm wastegate with a 1 bar spring, and run it at 18-20 psi for the stocker rods. Now i guess the next thing that i come to think of is tuning. The rest ive researched and have a pretty good idea on what i need. For tuning i was thinking of unitronics 630cc BT tune. Its right around 900 bucks though... Are there any other tunes for less that are comparable?
You can go with a tapp/eurodyne tune. Its a $100-150 cheaper and is just as good. Contact pagparts.com and talk to arnold about what they have available for your engine code and he also has the injectors and fuel pump among other things. They do have a 630cc file with will be plenty of fuel for the 50trim
^ there are tons of Uni dealers on the US. Pagparts, forcefed engineering and just sending it to one of the vortex reps is also doable. Not really that hard. BTW, Tapp is a Canadian company also
^^ I can understand fitment may be a problem, but with a nbo2 car, they are probably the best choice and worth the difficulties making and U bend tip to fit the maf. If he is a 01+, by all means, filter on the turbo FTW!!
