Default Trunk Release issue....see if anyone can help me figure this one out.

The other day while at work I go in my trunk to grab my tools which I have been repeatedly having to do during the day, pushed the key fob and nothing happens, so I unlock the doors, push the trunk release above the license plate and nothing but a clicking sound. Tried inside the drivers door and still no luck, only way to open is to physically stick the key into the cylinder and turn it...also want to note that all of this was tried while in the NON-VALET mode (key cylinder vertical position). I took the actuator out and ran a 12 volt supply to it and was able to get it to move back and forth. I ran a voltage meter to the clamp that goes to the actuator and got juice running to it, so my only option now is to disconnect my battery and try resetting the comfort control module...however I don't have the radio code that came with the car btw its a 2002 Audi A4 1.8 quattro......HELP ANYONE!!!!???

Your trunk release motor goes out. Don't worry much about the ECM. Trunk release is like 60 bucks:

its the actuator but get the linkage too just in case.... When the actuator struggles sometimes it bends the linkage

I mentioned earlier that I had connected a 12 volt power source to the actuator and got it to move in and out....today I hooked up a actuator in my trunk from out of a wrecked A6 that a friend had in the yard and still no luck getting it to do anything, not sure if it was because it was a different type however the clamp fit right into it. Guess i'm gonna shell out the 60 dollars and buy a new one to see if that works

Bringing the thread back from the dead! I did the exact same thing you did, I removed the actuator and connected to a 12v source and the actuator moved in and out. Did the new one fix it?
