Default 1998 A4 Avant battery disconnect

I want to disconnectthe battery on my 1998 Avant to reset the 'Engine Service ' light. If I do, I'm afraid my radio will no longer work because I bought the car used last year and I don't know the radio code. Can anyone help? Thanks

easier method take it to autozone and have them clear it and more over give the codes that caused the CEL. otherwise look forward to paying the dealer to get your radio code.

Just FYI, I tried clearing a code and turning off a CEL by doing a battery disconnect on my 99 (pre-facelift) A4, and it didn't clear the code or reset the light - I had to do it through Vagcom. If it works for you, that's great, but it didn't for me. As for your radio code, check the owner's manual and see if it's written in there (some have said it is). If not, you should be able to go to the dealer with your registration, title, and driver's license (to prove the car is yours and you are who you say you are) and they can look it up for you.
