but then again abs is a luxury not a nessesity.

the shops around here did not offer such a nice 5 year warrenty or send it back if your old one is actually good.

actually after ready it again i was thinking of the hydrolic unit. not the control module

so in answer to your question yes you should get a rebuilt computer not the hydrolic unit

also this could be no problem at all. abs and traction control are ment to keep you in control if your directly trying to get out of control and get out of its working paramitters. depending on how new the car is it shuts down everything and thinks your going to crash. try it with your windows down and i bet they will roll them selfs up. some of the mecades models sit your seat up tighten your seat belt audis going the same thing but im not sure how close they are with it.

why dont you call audi or go there and talk to them the sevice writers there are usally pretty helpfull even if you dont get it worked on
Cool, I called my buddy a VW mechanic who has a B5 and he said it's the module. He also says to get it rebuilt and not pay the huge fees Audi would charge. 500 even sounds low to him. I also think if you get this from Audi you have to get the pump with it which costs $$$.

I also agree with spending the extra money to get it done right, in this case I'm paying the extra $$$ for the warranty. Also a rebuilt module according to mudulemaster will be much more reliable than a manufactured one. Seems resonble.

Thanks for the info.

Anyone got any second opinions on this? Originally, told it was the module shooting craps, which was what I figured, but now, somebody suggested a switch under the dash. Any thoughts/opinions on this? Thanks!
You could spend the 20 bucks on the switch to rule it out but my VW mechanic buddy said my prob is the module for me. Both my ABS and brake light come on after 2 minutes of starting up the car. I'm just going to send it off, they test it and send it back if that is not the prob. If you get the mod back and it does not solve the prob I think you would get money back but I'll check with them first and post. Go to www.modulemaster.com and run their troubleshoot to rule anything else out. Also shows you how to take it off in detailed instructions and video

Im also having problems with my ABS (which i have disabled at the moment due to it locking up the brakes) Audi quoted me $2100 for the ABS module and labor. I know I can get a rebuild for under $500 so im going to do it myself. I tried replacing the module under the back seat first since it only cost $75 but the problems persisted, so now I have to find a replacement module that attaches to the ABS pump under the hood.

The tachometer failing is a classic sign of ABS module failure.

It's not a complicated thing to get it done 'right.' If you're paying $200+ to get the module rebuilt, you are getting ripped off. I have a picture of of a module someone sent me to rebuild that had been sent to one of those big rebuilding shops. You should have seen it. I was horrified - a true electrical engineer's worst nightmare. They literally shotgunned the entire thing and just threw solder blobs all over every connection. The internal protective gel was destroyed, every soldered joint was a cold solder and would come off by poking at it, the epoxy they used to seal it was ineffective and splattered all over the internals. It was absolutely horrendous. I don't know which outfit did that, but it's proof enough that there are people out there who don't know what they're doing. It's a simple repair on two wires. It requires some sophisticated equipment to do it, but it's nothing too involved (at least compared to what I do for my day job).

You can get the module done on ebay for less than $100 guaranteed working or I can do it for the same price.

Hey, two more questions.

1. I was told that I can still drive the car if you remove the ABS control module. That the brakes will still function perfectly, but without ABS obviously. Is this true?

2. What all is involved in removing the module. My dad and I were under the hood looking at it, and Im wondering what all I need to do. Im guessing will I need to bleed the brakes when I get it back.

Thanks guys, Matt.

http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec116.shtml you dont have to mess with the hydrolic lines, you can seperate the electrical part only.

I was wrong! My wire broke on the driver side wheel sensor. I spliced it and all is fine. Glad I did not have to spend the money for a module. Sorry for being so sure it was the module. In many cases it is, however.
