CV joints, Audi A6
Hello, everyone... I have a 2001 Audi A6 2.7T... car makes "cracking" noise when turning right...
1. Need I replace the cv joints? or just the boots?
2. If so, replace them both?
3. Is it an expensive job?
Thanks beforehand for any advise.

Take it in to a indy mechanic and he will tell you if they are broken. If the boot is broken you will have to replace it with a new boot but you might as well by the whole kit for the CV.

chances are you need to replace the whole joint, most places will tell you they only replace the whole axle. its maybe 200 for parts and labor at cheapest. i just ordered a new cv joint and did the work myself. although for the time that i couldnt get a new joint i simply just packed the old boot with grease and taped, worked for a week til i got my new part, im pretty sure you can get away packing the joint, but i wouldnt take that chance since it sounds like the joints done for.

So is a CV joint or boot the same thing as an Axle. Audi dealer told me cv boot and the CarX the guy who always fixes all my cars said axle. R they they same?
Also now my ABS Brake light is on does the axle/ cv have anything 2 do with this?

they are not the same thing the half shaft/what you might call an Axel has an inner and outer CV joint on it and what you need is an outer CV joint and CV rubber boot and yes it could have damaged the ABS sensor or its gunked up with grease
