Default heat 1996 a4 6cycl

hello people need a little help here with the heat it stars off warm then go,s cold if u idle the car cold rev the car up gets hotter but take your foot off gas gets cold again just had new timing belt in mechanic assures he put new therostat in and waterpump im a little wary if he did because every little thing he put in he chargeme for but did not see thermo on bill had the car back to him this week ask to check heat said flushed out system look fine but drive the car home still say thing . any help thanks very much in advance tony

not a tech but have had my share of problems...lol...does ur temp gage reach half way? if it does then the stat should be good. have the heater core checked...may just need to be flushed out

The heater core is clogged. If you flush them they will clog back up.

you have air in the coolant... it needs to be bled out. the tech was probably in such a hurry to make his time he didn't even bother to check to see if the heater worked afterwards.

No tech but...I have had the same problem with my A4 180T, The heater core is very low in the heating system, thus rust and other stuff settle there. There are different ways to flush the system. The cooling system (motor) and an flush of the Heating system. After the cooling system was flushed there was no change. Weeks later we flushed the heating system, with a special solvent, We got almost 2 pounds of rust out of the system. Now I flush the system every fall.

Problem is gone.
