Start up question.
I have a 2000 TT FWD manual transmission.
Ok well I was curious can you start tyour carwithout the clutch put in?
Most other cars that are stick I cant start the car without having the clutch in . I can have my car in neutral and start it without even touching the clutch. Is this an
Audi thing or is something up with my car?
This one too, Can anyone else have thier car in 1st gear w/o touching the gas and still cruise?
I can start driving let off the gas and come to a slow cruise like 5mph, w/o any gas at all, as long as the road has no stop signs it will go.
again any other stick car would cut out on me .
I'm not worried aboutthis just a little confused.
TIA

RE: Start up question.
Without pressing the clutch in, the vehicle should not start. That's not normal, may have potential tranny problem or ignition switch not recognizing the gear. As far as the car moving in first gear and rolling, that's just how these cars are, that's normal.

RE: Start up question.
actaully every audi ive owned i could start the car without depressing the clutch as long as its in neutral. not that id suggest it but it seems normal. atleast in earlier cars ive never owned an audi past 96.yet.

RE: Start up question.
Yeah this seems a little wierd. As far as the tranny problem I just had a new clutch put inand I dont knowcould be wrong .
It hasless than 10,000 miles on it.
Could the mech messed something up on it?
I had the car less than 1 week when it when out on me.
I wasnt too worried but lately my starter stays on a few secs longer than normal. I do believe I'll need to replace it soon.
Thanks for the help.

RE: Start up question.
There's usually a switch on the clutch pedal "arm" that is pressed in when you put the clutch in to start the car, and this allows the car to start. If the clutch isn't pressed in, the switch is open and the car won't start. It could be that the switch is a) shorted, b) bypassed (as if someone had put a remote start system on the car), or c) just a feature your car doesn't have. As for the 5mph cruise, my car will do it too (and so did my Z) - if the engine/driveline are smooth and the computer's control over the engine is precise (as it is in these cars), the engine will stay running and will move the car without jerkiness.
