Leave the nut on a couple threads so there is still a gap, hit it with a hard rubber mallet.

Put some PB blaster on there, you can also put a small pry bar in the openings to help the bolt out.
You will have to tap it with a hammer, the top arms will NOT come out until the bolt does.

Don't worry about the upright, it's really tough and can take it. You should also not reuse any of the bolts.

Those may work great if your not from NY or other salt states. From experiance (passats) , what ive had to do is break out the air hammer. use a chissel bit and spread the split collar slightly, then use a combination of heat and penetrating oil (its gona be real smokey). you can either pound on it with a hammer or use a punch bit in the air hammer to knock it out. replace the bolt, always replace this bolt.

Yeah i have tried beating on it to death and its comin out, thats why i was wondering if someone had any other ideas. i had 2 take the whole hub out to do the suspension. i got it on but the bolt is still in there with no bolt and a mest up end on it. i think im going to have 2 take it to somebody to get it replaced.
