Default Buying an 01 s4

so ive been surfing the forum and i see the mileage you guys have, this one was owned buy a buisness man who drove an hour to work every day, so im thinkin alot of sitting in 6th gear and cruising. NOT that i am saying it hasnt been beat on, its a fun car.

This car is going to turn over 100,000 miles within the first 4 days i have it.

i see that getting the samco hose kit is a good idea and eliminates problems, and ive been told my audi/VW guys that upgrading the diverter valve is a must, but what else should i look for when getting this thing?

im not a noob to cars, im big on the nasioc forum and ive built an ej20g swapped RS impreza and a 16g'd vr4 galant.

thanks

i had been searching all night and came up with alot of my answers, i was more or less seeing if 100,000 miles is going to hurt me shortly, i see alot of you are at max around 80,000 and alot of you are actually very low in miles.

Ok
Yes me B5 S4 is on low miles too and i waited for ages to find one like that with all the options i wontd too
Havin siad that i've had the car for bout for 5 months and after spending over 5k on rountine maintaince (car had no warranty) + getting it rite - so even on a low milage one you still will have to fork out - and lucky nothing major has gone wrong yet
So mi next step is to upgrade some of the stadard things like F-hose, TBB, DV's b4 i can give it the chip + exhaust: hear we go again?
Apart from the above what else lets go generally is the N75 valve, EGT, MAF, Lambdas like anything with wear and tear, there are more but will come to me latta
Oh yes you gotta make sure the time belt + water pump has been done and that the service has been done on time - keeps the turbos nice and happy
So to answer u question how long is a piece of string?
I mite sound like u dad hear but mi advice would be if u can get a lower mile one
The next question i would ask the guys hear would be at what miles did the turbos let go?
Cheers

yeah..you have to be patient on your search..theyre out there so just keep searching.

but i just wanted to comment on what you said about a lot of 6th gear cruising miles... I dont know if that really makes much of a difference.. miles are miles.. if its maintained and wasnt beat on.. a mile in town vs a mile on the highway is hte same thing. people get too overrated on that.

I don't agree a mile in town = a mile on the highway. A mile in town can be full of stop signs/lights and traffic. That takes a higher toll than 1 mile of cruising at 65-85 (whatever).

I do agree that it's not an enormous difference.

If I were to buy one at 100k, I would want comprehensive service records, and would anticipate replacing the turbos between soon after you get it and 130k miles.

Just for the record, that 130k miles is not based on much else than paying attention to when people have replaced their turbos. Some cases, the turbos have gone much longer than that. However, I think that there are also many cases of turbos dying before 130k. In any event, it is something that I would be prepared to pay out for.

im just say..id rather have a car that i know was well maintained then based on highway miles and town miles.. there isnt hardly any impact on the engine for that.
