Stiff suspensions and a hard ride
Hi all, I bought my Audi Exclusive A6 S-line 3.2 Quattro 2008 just a week ago, it is equipped with 19" tiers.
First thing i notice about the ride is that its very hard and the suspensions are very stiff, something that i couldn't take and just a simple drive in the city was a nightmare.
the recommended tire pressure as per the manual was 41 PSI front and 38 PSI at rear. my car was inflated with more that 55 PSI when i checked it, so what i did is that i reduced the tyre pressure to 42 PSI front and 40 PSI rear because the weather is still hot here in kuwait.
The ride become noticeably smooth, is there is any thing more i can do to make it smoother??

they always over inflate the tires when they're at the dealer, due to the fact that they stay parked for a while. i dont know how long it takes but springs and shocks take a while (couple hundred miles) to settle in (droop). its kinda like braking in the motor, rotor, brake pads, clutch, flywheel,etc.
other than that, the size of the rim could make a diff because u will have smaller sidewalls (they help cushion road impact)
did u test drive a non-sport or something with smaller rims?

This is why most people who get 19s end up dissatisfied. Look great, ride bad. Tires are really an air spring. The Ultra-low 30 or 35-series profile tires have no room to flex, so the spring is extremely stiff and the ride deteriorates. The only real solution is a less aggressive setup, like 18s or 17s and a 45 or 50 series tire.

Yep, as they all said. An A6 looks great with 18" wheels - in no way do they look undersized. Get a set of those and appropriate tires and you'll be very happy with your results (not to mention, you'll be happier when you go to replace those 18" tires than you will if you replace 19" tires - the cost difference is considerable).
