I am using VCDS-Lite. I had a 1999 A4-B5 and I could pull almost all addresses, but I recently got a 2008 A4-B7 and I can only read the following addresses: 08/09/16/17/36/46/56. The ones I needed most (01/02/03) tell me the protocol is not supported. Does that mean that I need to use a separate interface? Is it possible I have a KII and need CAN? - which one do I need? Seems odd that I would have to use multiple interfaces to cover off a full scan.

Yeah, sounds like you need a different cable. Audi has moved them to different protocols as the cars have advanced.

 

Any clues as to which aftermarket ones one would work?

 

you need the Hex-Can cable.
Most of the electronics run on can bus on the b7 apart from some legacy stuff that was pulled over from the b6 ,

 

I bought an ebay Hex-Can cable and I can't get it to link to the car at all with the current version of VCDS-Lite. The cable tests OK except for Latency - which comes in at 11-12ms, Poor. No communication with the Modules. I am running it on a small Netbook runing XP, I don't know if that's the problem or not.

 

I just ordered a HEX-CAN from HK for $36 shipped - seller says it will work - I'll let you know how it works out
