vagcom to vcds-lite
Well - I guess effective April 1st, Vagcom 409.1-s can no longer be registered. We can only register VCDS-Lite. The executable seems to have a date of 3/31/10 on it.
According to ross-tech's webpage, there were trademark issues with VAGCOM.
Does anyone know if anything has changed? Any functionality removed due to 'trademarks'?
I'll probably still register, but now I'll have to test the new software for a few days to make sure it is working reliably. (It didnt on the first test drive, but that might have been a config issue).
When I do register, it's still $99.

Random notes on VCDS:
Read some of the online docs for vcds-lite. Here's a tidbit - the measuring block that you need to monitor the turbo appears to be 115.
You can monitor cylinder misfires in blocks 14, 15, and 16
In order to monitor measuring blocks 25 and higher you'll need to register.
After a 45 minute test (with some unfortunate misfires - I stopped and moved coil packs around but I don't think that is the real problem - but it did let me see the logs and verify that the misfires are almost exclusively on cylinder 2) the car stayed connected to vcds-lite - so whatever config problem (or software conflict) I had has been worked out.
Remember - let vcds-lite run 'as administrator' and close any apps that try to monitor your serial/usb ports. (blackberry, itunes, hotsync, pdanet, etc).
When you first run VCDS-lite go into options and test. It will give you another line or two of data about your cable (latency, etc).
Guess I'll register soon.
