wouldnt a cold air intake work better than this mod seeing as how the whole filter will be sucking in cold air not just from a few holes? plus i dont think it would cause hydrolock but everyone seems to say you'll lose hp with an intake what is the deal with that?! and i tried using the search it wasnt working for me

no a cold air wouldnt work better.. UNLESS.. you custom designed an awesome heatshield for your intake.. the problem with intakes is that they are only sucking in the hot air from the turbo.. which is no good.. and if you get a cold air intake with a long *** tube.. all the friction caused by air plumbing through an aluminum tube just heats the air up.. so then again.. no good..

the design of audi's intake system being so close to the turbo sucks for aftermarket intakes.. the stock box design is the superior design at the moment.. like i said .. unless you can fabricate some amazing heatshield to guard your intake..

so i think a few of us are confused here. why would this mod be bad for 2.8 and/or only for 1.8T?

its not bad for the 2.8 but better for the 1.8 cuz the turbo needs to get the more flow where the 2.8 dos just fine, the 2.8 you can just get an intake cuz you will anyway since thats about the only mod you can do to it

Plus the 2.8 has less heat under the hood due to the lack of a 1000* turbo next to the intake....

Carbonio makes an awesome setup for an airbox if you want to go that way. Well worth the $350 I spent.
