Default Is this normal or indicative of a problem?

One thing I've noticed with my car is that, to disarm the alarm and unlock the doors with the key fob, I have to be practically right next to the car - otherwise the range is too great and it doesn't work. Is this normal with these cars? Both my fobs are like this. I would assume that if it's not normal, I probably just need new batteries in the fobs, but I thought I'd ask first. Anyone?

Yeah, sounds like the battery could be going. The range on these things isn't great, but I'll usually get a 20-30 yard throw.

Where in upstate NY are you? I'm from Rochester.

I'm in Binghamton, about an hour south of Syracuse, directly down I81. I may be headed to Rochester in the next few weeks to visit a buddy up there. I'll let you know if I go - maybe meet us for a beer?

I figured it was probably the batteries. Sorry about not doing the search - at work and have to watch how much 'net usage I have, but thanks for the feedback all the same. Gotta fix my PC at home!!!

it could also be dirt on the inside of the fob so if your fitting new batteries then clean the fob out
